Arrogant Blade has played a very clever trick - Free State students

2016-09-19 15:59

Bloemfontein – The Student Representative Council (SRC) at the University of the Free State announced on Monday that the institution would be shut down for the entire week.
This comes after Higher Education and Training Minister Blade Nzimande announced that each university would decide its own fee increase.
SRC president Lindokuhle Ntuli told hundreds of students gathered at the student centre that a national shutdown was needed in response to the minister's announcement.
"Our call is for government to fund the poor and we can't compromise that. Since the beginning of the year, government has been delaying to look into the grievances of students," he said.
One student who was part of the crowd, Kelebogile Thulo, said she was shocked when she heard Nzimande's announcement.
"Blade is arrogant, we thought he learnt his lesson last year. Black students are going to suffer," she said.
Another student, Sam Styrax, said, "Blade has played a very clever trick by shifting the responsibilities to students. He wants us to blame the universities for fee increase."

ANC CALLS ON ZUMA TO ‘REPRIMAND’ AND ‘DISCIPLINE’ ZWANE

The ANC says Minister Mosebenzi Zwane’s recent actions have brought the country’s leadership into disrepute
JOHANNESBURG – The African National Congress (ANC) has called on the president to “discipline” and “reprimand” Mineral ResourcesMinister Mosebenzi Zwane for his statement regarding an inquiry into the major banks.
On Friday, Zwane released a statement saying cabinet had agreed on a recommendation to the president that a judicial inquiry be established into why some of the country’s banks closed the Gupta family’s accounts.
Thereafter the Presidency issued a contradictory message, saying Minister Zwane’s assertions do not reflect the position or views of cabinet or government.
The national ANC says while it welcomes the presidency’s statement distancing itself from Mineral Resources Minister’s utterances, it believes President Jacob Zuma needs to do more.
Party spokesperson Zizi Kodwa says, “We think it was not enough that the presidency distanced itself, and the cabinet, from that statement. The president must discipline Zwane.”
The ANC says Zwane’s actions have brought the country’s leadership into disrepute, and show that there might be people outside government who control him.

SABC MUM ON REASONS FOR RELEASING JOURNALIST

Jacques Steenkamp, one the SABC 8, says he was released without serving his notice period
JOHANNESBURG – One of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) eight journalists, who resigned from the public broadcaster on Monday, says the broadcaster has refused to give him reasons as to why he has been released without serving his notice period.

Jacques Steenkamp has accepted a job in New Zealand and resigned from the SABC on Monday.

Steenkamp and seven other journalists were fired and later reinstated after publicly opposing the SABC’s controversial policy, which banned the broadcast of images of violent and destructive protests.

They will be continuing with their Constitutional Court application to oppose unlawful conduct at the public broadcaster.

Steenkamp posted a message on his Facebook account yesterday saying he will no longer be working at the SABC until November as planned.

He was told yesterday to go without serving his notice period and he says the Human Resource department refused to disclose the reason behind this decision.

But Steenkamp says that a reliable source informed him that it was due to the SABC eight’s supplementary affidavits that were filed in the Constitutional Court on Monday.

The SABC says it’s not unusual for an employee to be paid out for the notice period.

The eight are now pushing ahead with their constitutional court application against the SABC, saying they want unlawful conduct at the broadcaster to stop.

Review
Storyline An ambitious married woman's temptation by a handsome billionaire leads to betrayal, recklessness, and forever alters the course of her life.

There are many things to admire about Tyler Perry. His ascent in the entertainment industry is incredible, and he has used his power effectively to give a voice to the African-American experience the same way Woody Allen has for the Jewish experience. He gives opportunities to young African-Americans actors and veterans such as Cicely Tyson who would struggle to find work elsewhere. Perry is a shrewd, powerful businessman. But he's a horrible director and mediocre writer. His latest project "Temptation" is his worst to date. The premise not only straddles the lines of implausibility, it's downright ridiculous. A girl-next-door-type (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) who is married to a man she has known since they were both 6 years old suddenly decides to have an affair with one of her clients. She also starts to snort cocaine and hang out in seedy nightclubs. A subplot involving actress/singer Brandy is also dumb, and the plot twist at the end is the icing on the cake to this mess. When the credits began rolling, the reaction in my theater felt like a collective "Are you kidding me?" Perhaps it only makes sense that Kim Kardashian is in this movie. Remember in algebra class when we learned that a negative and a positive always equal a negative? That's what the scenes between Kardashian and Smollett-Bell produce. One can act, one can't. You do the math. Perry also needs to stop with the pointless close-up shots and phony eye-drop tears. Although with this flop, it's the audience members who paid $10 who should be crying.
